The Location
Lochbroom lodge - above: view from the An Teallach Room - stands in its own private grounds surrounded by mature gardens with commanding views of Ullapool. To the rear of the house is our hill ground where you can see our own red deer herd and watch the birds (buzzards) of prey circle round and swoop down on the prey. To the front of the lodge the whole of Lochbroom stretches before you with its local and visiting fishing boats heading to and from the harbour. The loch is especially colourful throughout the summer months when visiting yachts and cruise ships from many nationalities drop by.
The large ferryboat, The Isle of Lewis, has an extra daily sailing to the Western Isles making for an interesting spectacle as it steams past in the fjord (called "loch" in Scotland) in front of Lochbroom Lodge.
Across the loch stand the mountains of Ben Ghoblach and An Teallach. Looking to the East the village of Ullapool and its nine hole golf course lies below. And to the west you look out over the mouth of the loch, The Summer Isles - known for spectacular sunsets.
Yet Ullapool is only 1 mile away where local boats land prawns and lobsters within sight of the lively seafront shops, bars & restaurants. Our croft land to the front with its blackface sheep provides easy access to the shore. Here you can enjoy a summer barbeque or picnic, or take a walk towards Rhue Lighthouse. Alternatively, along the shore, it's a leisurely 20 min stroll to the village, passing the golfers as they play the No. 3 green, and fishers angling for salmon at the mouth of the Ullapool River. You then cross the wooden bridges and your almost there.
